A new school year brings new routines, new friends, and new germs. You don’t have to wait for your child to get sick to think about their health. A little planning can set them up for a strong year.
Schedule check-ups and vaccines early.
Annual visits help track growth, vision, hearing, and behavior. Vaccines protect against serious illnesses that spread easily in schools. Don’t wait for forms or deadlines – book appointments early so you’re ready.
Set sleep routines before school starts.
Kids and teens need 8–10 hours of sleep. A week or two before school, start moving bedtime earlier. Turn off screens at least 30–60 minutes before bed. A regular sleep schedule helps focus, mood, and learning.
Plan balanced meals and snacks.
Include fruits or vegetables, whole grains, and protein in lunches and snacks. Water is the best drink. Small changes – like switching from chips to fruit or from soda to water – add up over time.
Limit screen time and encourage movement.
After school, give kids time to move, play, or be outside before more screens. Movement helps with stress, attention, and sleep.
